Dallas Bar Association Home Project

Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity's Longest Serving Whole House Sponsor

Last year... We were honored to sponsor and build a home with Betty Starling and her daughter Brittany. The Starlings now live in their new home at 3403 Santa Gertudis Dr., located in the South Dallas neighborhood of Cedar Creek Ranch. The Dallas legal community contributed approximately $60,000 and over a thousand volunteer hours to build the Starlings’ new home. The DBA Home Project is proud to have made affordable homeownership a reality for our sponsored families, and we thank those of you who have helped us reach our goal of sponsoring one home for a local family each year.

This year... In 2009, we will build a home with Tameka Wheeler. Tameka is a single mother of three boys, one with special needs, and she is looking forward to living in a community where her children can play outside together in a yard, rather than an apartment parking lot. The Wheeler's new home will be built this Spring and will also be in the Cedar Creek Ranch Neighborhood.

Read more about this year's build from January's Headnotes. Please come out and spend a Saturday working for affordable homes in the Dallas area. Meet others in the legal profession, carry wood, swing a hammer, paint, climb ladders, caulk, saw, lay sod, and give back to your community! Where else can you find all that in one place?

We would like to thank our faithful supporters who make the DBA Home Project’s success possible, including: attorneys, judges and legal support professionals, who provided the dollars and the manpower to build the home; the Dallas Court Reporters Association, which generously provided healthy and delicious meals for our many volunteers; Henjum Goucher and the Law Office of J. Scott Chase for supporting our annual Wrap Party, held at the MADI Museum and sponsored and hosted by Bill and Dorothy Masterson; Anne Maxwell and the Dallas Lawyers Auxiliary for again providing the cake for the dedication; the leadership and staff of the Dallas Bar Association, who supported our efforts in too many ways to enumerate; and Tony Gatlin of Lone Star Litigation Support, who has been generous with his time and sponsorship of our printing needs. Finally, we would like to thank the hardworking Home Project Committee members for applying their talents toward this project, so that we can continue the legacy of community service started by DBA leaders so many years ago.

If you are interested in participating in DBA Home Project, please contact one of this year's Co-Chairs, Chris Brown (chris.brown@klgates.com) or Scott Conrad (sconrad@settlepou.com).
